Welcome to Korea University, an institution that is a source of pride for our nation and one that has produced many important global leaders amongst its over 250,000 alumni world-wide.
Korea University was established “to save the nation through education” during the difficult times under foreign occupation in 1905. Since its establishment, Korea University has educated many talented people who defended and led the nation by rising to new challenges to accomplish new goals at every turning point of history. Throughout the period of industrialization and democratization in Korea, the university played a significant role in the nation’s development by maintaining its traditions and pursuing its challenging spirit while sustaining its competency in higher education.
Today, the world is no longer limited to national boundaries. Maintaining international competence has become a challenge for each nation to meet. One of the biggest shifts in the world today is the transformation to a knowledge-based society dependent on a workforce equipped with finely tuned international communications and innovative thinking skills. Universities in Korea can no longer remain comfortably ensconced behind the walls of the nation’s own academic institutions and national borders.
Universities must equip themselves by developing the ability to react comprehensively and immediately to the challenges that the newly transformed knowledge-based society has brought on. Maintaining competency and sustaining competitiveness is the key to survival.
As a result, Korea University has been expanding and has focused on equipping students to move forward out of their comfort zones, to explore the world. Based on its century long history and achievements, Korea University is to mark a new era in the name of ‘Global KU 1,000 years’. We are not to remain content with present accomplishments. We are to continue to upgrade ourselves by consolidating our place as one of the leading institutions of higher education in the world by further facing challenges with a frontier spirit. With this frontier spirit, Korea University hopes to place itself as a World Core University.
To do this, Korea University will pursue establishing an advanced environment for research and education. We will aim to become a prominent institution in the center of a global network, a hub of global students and scholars with finely tuned international communications knowledge, innovative thinking and analytical skills. Korea University will give you the skills needed to be global leaders and the future.
Carrying its original ideas of liberty, justice and truth, Korea University will build a tradition of education that corresponds in harmony with the ancient tradition of academics. This will function as a major stepping stone for the future generations of Korea University.
I believe those who devote themselves to work are able to face challenging tasks with no fear. Korea University students will be passionate players with the mind of entrepreneurs. And together with students, Korea University will open itself to the world and continue to stay globally competitive and consolidate its place as one of the top institutions of higher education in the world.
