The 'College of Life Sciences & Biotechnology' merged the existing College of Life Sciences and College of Life and Environmental Sciences and unified the departmental structures. It restructured and merged the Division of Life Sciences by merging the College of Life Sciences' Departments of Biology, Food Science, and Genetic Engineering, and College of Life and Environmental Sciences' Divisions of Life and Genetic Engineering, Bio Industry Sciences, Food Sciences, and Environmental and Ecology, and the Department of Food and Resources Economics. The 'College of Life Sciences & Biotechnology' is now flourishing as an integrated undergraduate program consisting of the Divisions of Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Food Sciences, Environmental Science and Ecological Engineering, and the Department of Food and Resource Economics.
The 'College of Life Sciences & Biotechnology' is the largest BT college in the country with as many as 90 full-time faculty, around 1,400 undergraduate students, and some 450 graduate students. As Korea University's hub of all life sciences fields as well, it will serve as an engine for creative and future-oriented education, research and industrialization through the fusion of BT, ET, and IT.
The 'College of Life Sciences & Biotechnology submitted a plan, ¡¸University Specialization Project¡¹ to lead the development of the life sciences fields through fostering distinguished specialized expertise, creating excellent research groups and encouraging life and bio academic-industrial cooperative research. The project was selected as the leading organization of the Life Sciences by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources. This coincides with Korea University's long term development vision, Global KU, Brain KU, and Professional KU, and in detail, we will reach our goal of 'fostering the BT research centered university' and our long term vision of 'nurturing 21st century style global human resources and leaping into the ranks of the world's distinguished university.'
As the 'College of Life Sciences & Biotechnology' includes animal, plant, microorganism, and medical life sciences fields, environmental ecology and food bio fields, and economics and business management of bio industry, it will grow as a hub of life sciences, activating joint research and using collaborative lectures through team teaching. It will also serve to 'foster the next generation life sciences leading group' through educational content innovation centered on experimentation and field experience, strengthen research competitiveness through infra innovation, and operate an epoch-making academic-industrial-research cooperation program.
The continuously growing bio industry is cementing its position as the center of 21st century industry, according to the general consensus of the world's scientists. The College of Life Sciences & Bio Technology, which consists of the Division of Life Sciences in charge of basic life science fields, the Division of Biotechnology dealing with cutting edge bio industry, the Division of Environmental Science and Ecological Engineering that propels the environmental conservation and ecologically friendly fields, the Division of Food Sciences in the bio food and new material fields, and the Department of Food and Resource Economics that deals with economic and business approaches of the bio industry, sets the goal of pursuing future oriented education that in turn will foster the human resources required to lead the bio industry.
The 'College of Life Sciences & Biotechnology' sets the goal of fostering excellent bio field human resources and operates interdisciplinary education between school systems and integrated educational and research programs centered on the three axes: the undergraduate, graduate and academic-industrial-research training programs. It manages user-oriented education systems including a practical curriculum that meets the demand of enterprises and society and provides opportunities for selecting various majors that meet the needs of students. As a result, students can design their future through various programs such as multiple major, double major, related major, self-designed major and concentrated major.
