Graduate School of Food and Agriculture(special graduate school of agriculture) was founded in March, 1977 for the first time to make professional labors who will take the initiative of food production development technology build up academic uniqueness and social leadership and to build Liaison Program between the University and research centers and corporations.
In April, 1991 according to the international trend of recognition that Agriculture means not only “food production” but also “application to natural resources development” as an up-to-date industry and has high value-added, Korea University has added four majors including genetic
engineering and changed the name of the graduate school from “Graduate School of Natural Resources” to “Graduate School of Life and Environmental Sciences”. Thus we pursue the change toward graduate school system to teach superior labors who
will major in life industry and environmental ecology. Now, there are master courses and research courses in 8 departments and 16 majors and the total 40 faculties are endeavoring to develop graduate school students in knowledge and ability of practical application by theoretical instruction, experiment and guidance of thesis. Our Graduate School of Life and Environmental Sciences keeps many kinds of instruments, equipments and facilities on the cutting edge, and the largest science library in Korea provides good educational conditions with the latest scientific books and journals.
