The KU newspaper, the first of Korean universities, has achieved its position and responsibility of a top university newspaper by not only advancing the general principles of print media, but also strengthening its reports through effective use of the internet. Under the slogan of ¡°Truth through Investigation,¡± the KU Newspaper was founded in November 3, 1947 as a student-run newspaper and has maintained its top position as a university press. Moreover, it has been a leading force in the creation of University traditions and culture, and has received high acclamation from the professional press for its experimentative mind and objective voice. The KU Newspaper is destined to continue its mark as a healthy avenue for honest journalism and critique.
The Granite Tower, the nation's oldest monthly college magazine, has been a major source of news for all segments of the Korea University community, including students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Founded in 1954 by Young-Bin Min, founder of YBM Si-sa, Korea¡¯s largest English education institute, The Granite Tower was reestablished in 1968 by Ik-Seo Park. The magazine traces its history to the first issue of the newspaper version of "The Granite Tower," published September 1954.
In 1997, The Granite Tower was the first college magazine in Korea to venture into the online world, establishing "The Granite Tower" website. Today, thousands of readers visit http://granite.korea.ac.kr each day to read The Granite Tower free of charge.
The Granite Tower has a rich tradition of journalistic integrity and has produced some of Korea's greatest intellectuals. As a nonprofit corporation, The Granite Tower continues to flourish with a strong body of undergraduate staff volunteers.
Korea University broadcasting station is composed of KTN (Korea University Television Network), which opened in 1997; and KUBS (Korea University Broadcasting Station), a radio station which opened in 1961. KTN airs more than 30 programs both of its own and of overseas satellite broadcast stations through CATV networks set up in all buildings on the Campus. KUBS airs news shows, cultural programs, and entertainment shows, and has served as the representative of the voice of students over the past 40 years. Both stations have real-time online broadcasting systems which enable audiences all around the world to have access to their programs.
