KU Pioneer Village (π-Ville), run by its cheif Sid Chung, was awarded a commendation by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education in recognition of its efforts to support the 2020 Seoul Student Maker Geek Festival's facilities and related administrative services, and to prevent the spread of COVID-19 for its duration.

In the category of Donation to Maker Education, KU Pioneer Village was given the outstanding institution prize, and its staff member Kim Man-jae a meritorious prize.

The festival is organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education in order to cultivate young "Makers" for the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, in collaboration with π-Ville. About 80 students and officials attended the event from November 13 to 14, which concluded successfully.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, KU Pioneer Village divided its employees into 'X-GARAGE' and 'π-Ville' staff. At its own expense, it also placed automatic disinfectant sprays and non-contact thermometers at strategic locations.

This event was held offline, streamed on YouTube in real time. KU Pioneer Village set up a network environment at the venue to ensure a stable online connection and made every effort to ensure effective promotion of the event and seamless management by closely communicating with relevant KU departments.

The "Runners", the student 'X-GARAGE' staff members, helped participating students with the production of drawings and showed them how to use equipment and hand tools such as 3D printers and laser cutting machines, in order to ensure a safe and efficient event.

KU Pioneer Village chief Sid Chung said, “I am grateful to all those who helped to make this event a success despite difficulties due to COVID-19. We will continue to encourage a spirit of creativity among students."
