On Thursday, August 2, Korea University held the completion ceremony for the 2018 ISC (International Summer Campus) Session at Inchon Memorial Hall.

Approximately 1,830 students from 34 countries participated in the 2018 KU ISC, making it the largest of its kind in Korea.

The KU ISC began its 6-week academic track on June 26. Students from home and abroad, along with prospective university students, participated in the ISC. Distinguished professors from globally prestigious universities such as the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University taught over 120 courses including management, economics, politics, law, humanities, science, engineering, and art.

In addition to attending regular courses, the students were invited to take part in various activities such as Korean cooking, taekwondo, and calligraphy classes, in addition to participating in a K-pop dance performance (flash mob). They also had opportunities to participate in voluntary social work including a one-day teaching experience in a rural school and mural painting to explore and experience various aspects of Korean culture. Some were even given opportunities to work as interns for conglomerates, public corporations, and government offices in Korea.

In his congratulatory speech, Young-Kyu Kim from the steering committee of the KU ISC expressed his congratulations by saying, “Without a doubt, the ISC is by far the best among the many international programs offered at KU. Despite the fact that the summer in Korea was unusually hot this year, I would like to thank you for enjoying and successfully completing the 6-week program.”

Bridget Marie Lazecko, a student from the University of Pittsburgh, U.S.A., took the stage to represent all the 2018 ISC students. She shared her impressions by saying, “By taking part in various cultural activities in Korea, and by meeting new people, I was able to gain diverse and multi-dimensional viewpoints. What I remember most is my experience talking to Korean high school students when I participated in the mural painting event. I really learned a lot.”

After the K-pop flash mob event, the students enjoyed watching a K-pop dance performed by “Crimson Velvet,” a team composed of ISC students, which was then followed by LoGs, an acapella club at KU.

The ISC completion ceremony ended with students receiving “Best Buddy” awards and watching a video clip of the ISC activities to reminisce on the past six weeks. The summer campus session marked its end with students throwing their graduation caps into the air to congratulate each other. After the ceremony, professors and students gathered together and took pictures to capture the final moments of the 2018 ISC.
