Enthusiasm warms the winter air
Welcoming ceremony for the KU IWC Session 2
Korea’s largest International Winter Campus has begun its second session. The KU International Winter Campus (IWC) held its orientation and welcoming ceremony for Session 2 students on Monday, January 21, at the Ahn Young Il Hall, LG-POSCO Building.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome to the students and an introduction to the Buddy Program, followed by a welcoming speech by Professor Young-Kyu Kim from the Korea University Business School. Professor Kim observed that “with its long history, the Korea University International Winter Campus has become the biggest international university program in Asia. I hoped everyone would take full advantage of the program, which offers a unique opportunity for students to engage with people from around the world in diverse fields such as politics, economics, business and media.” He also mentioned how much Session 1 students enjoyed the program.
Robinson Sinurat, a student representative from Columbia University, also gave a welcoming speech. This was his first time in Korea and he said he was honored to have the opportunity to speak at this event. The student explained that he grew up in a family of poor farmers in India but was able to go to Columbia University, one of the most prestigious universities in the US, thanks to US government scholarships. He added that this time, he was able to participate in the IWC at Korea University with the help of sponsors. As he concluded his speech by wishing everyone a great time, the hall was filled with enthusiastic applause.
For the next two weeks until February 1, the second session of the IWC will offer lectures by professors from Korea University and distinguished scholars from prestigious universities around the world. It will also provide ample opportunities for students to enjoy winter in Korea and experience cultural activities.
