Korea University receives approval to establish the Department of Plant Protection under the College of Agriculture; the Department of English Education and the Department of Geography Education under the College of Education; and the Department of Korean Linguistics and Literature, the Department of Sociology, the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Applied Statistics on the Jochiwon Campus.
The Plan for Reforming Higher Education mandated that the total enrollment quota of Korea University for 1981 be adjusted downward to 5,600.

The Korea University Library is reorganized into the Main Library, and three branch libraries including the Science Library, the Jochiwon Library and the Medical Library. Each of the branch libraries has its own librarian department.
Hospitals affiliated with the College of Medicine are elevated to the status of Korea University Medicine that includes or would later include Hyehwa Hospital, Guro Hospital, Yeoju Hospital and Panwol Hospital.
