Korea University (President Kim Dong-One) emerged victorious in the 2025 Ko–Yon Games, held on September 19–20, with three wins and two losses, thereby clinching the overall championship. With this result, Korea University now leads the all-time series with 21 wins, 11 draws, and 20 losses—moving ahead of Yonsei University for the first time in years.
The annual Games reaffirm the enduring friendship between Bosung College (now Korea University), founded in the spirit of “national salvation through education”, and Yonhi College (now Yonsei University), established on the ideals of truth and freedom during the Japanese colonial period. Since 1965, the rivalry has been formalized across five sports—baseball, basketball, ice hockey, rugby, and football—and this year marked the 60th anniversary of the modern Games.
The opening ceremony was held on Friday, September 19, at Jamsil Baseball Stadium. Yonsei University President Yoon Dong-seop delivered welcoming remarks, calling the two schools “eternal rivals and steadfast companions for over a century,” and stressing that “today, Yonsei University and Korea University stand together not as ‘you’ and ‘me’ but as ‘we.’”
Korea University President Kim Dong-One described the Games as “a festival symbolizing youth, passion, friendship, and unity,” and encouraged athletes to “showcase their full potential and leave the field with no regrets.”

[Baseball] Korea University Posts 9–5 Victory at Jamsil to Open the Series ... Back-to-Back Baseball Wins between This Year and Last
KU defeated Yonsei 9–5 in the opening baseball game of the 2025 Ko–Yon Games, held on Friday, September 19, at 11:00 a.m. at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, giving KU a strong start in the series of games.
Yonsei struck first in the early innings, taking the lead, but KU responded in the top of the third. A hit by Kang Min-woo (Physical Education, Class of 2023) and a timely RBI from Gong Min-seo (Class of 2024) brought in two runs, putting KU ahead 2–1. Yonsei, however, answered in the bottom of the fifth with a triple from Sung Hyun-ho (Class of 2024) and an RBI from Kim Dong-joo (Class of 2023), regaining the lead as the teams remained locked in a tight contest.
The breakthrough came in the top of the seventh. With the bases loaded, Kang Min-woo cleared them with a decisive hit, extending KU’s lead to 8–3. KU added insurance runs and held off Yonsei’s late push, sealing a 9–5 victory and wrapping up the first game of the rivalry on a high note.

[Ice Hockey] Fierce Battle on the Ice… Korea University Fights Hard but Falls 6–0
KU fell to a 0–6 loss to Yonsei University in the ice hockey match at the 2025 Ko–Yon Games, held on Friday, September 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Mokdong Ice Rink. Despite a strong start, KU could not withstand Yonsei’s offensive surge in the second period, resulting in a heavy defeat.
In the opening period, KU set the pace with back-to-back shots from Lee Moo-young (Physical Education, Class of 2023) and Heo Min-jun (Physical Education, Class of 2023), while goalie Jeon Jong-hoon (Physical Education, Class of 2020) delivered multiple key saves that drew cheers from the stands. But the momentum shifted in the second period, as Yonsei’s Lim Sung-kyu (Class of 2025) and Lee Seung-jae (Class of 2022) scored in succession, putting KU on the back foot. KU pushed forward with counterattacks but was unable to find the net.
In the final period, KU showed resilience with Heo Min-jun and Choi Won-hyung (Physical Education, Class of 2024) leading the charge, but Yonsei added a late goal to seal the 0-6 win. Although the result was disappointing, KU’s players were applauded for their relentless fight until the final whistle.

[Basketball] Korea University Defeats Yonsei 57–48… Redeems Last Year’s Loss
The basketball match at the 2025 Ko–Yon Games was held on Friday, September 19, at 5:00 p.m. at Sono Arena in Goyang. With the win, KU avenged last year’s defeat and maintained its momentum on the opening day.
Right from the start, KU seized control with sharp outside shooting. A three-pointer from Moon Yu-hyun (Physical Education, Class of 2023), followed by quick scores from Yang Jong-yoon (Physical Education, Class of 2025) and Yoo Min-soo (Physical Education, Class of 2023), quickly built a double-digit lead. In the second quarter, Yang alternated between drives and perimeter shots, while Yoo dominated the boards to extend KU’s advantage. At one point, the gap stretched to the point that KU’s score was nearly double Yonsei’s, and KU closed the first half comfortably ahead, 33–19.
Yonsei mounted a comeback in the second half, but each surge was cut short by timely baskets from Moon. In the closing minutes of the fourth quarter, Sim Joo-eon (Physical Education, Class of 2024) and Lee Geon-hee (Physical Education, Class of 2022) delivered back-to-back scores to seal the victory. The game ended 57–48, as KU celebrated a decisive win and erased the frustration of last year’s loss.
